LOOKBOOK – THE SCRIBE – Autumn / Winter 2016

Explores the complexity, skill and cold beauty of the clockwork like construction of a 200 year old Automaton, known as the Draughtsman-Writer. The porcelain faced mechanical boy was built by Henri Maillardet (a Swiss mechanician) to store motion data. Cranking the handle on his box activates row after row of brass wheels into action, enabling him to write poems and draw pictures with fluid like movements.
Imitating life by mechanical means, and the overlapping of art and science.

Liquid colours of lead, black, dark rose, winter white, tin and Indian ink
fill this seasons palette in cashmere, merino wool, large knitted ribs, velvets and viscose.
